My name is Carlos Cruz I am a freelance character artist from Chile. The last past year I am mainly focusing my work on high res characters, at this moment I am doing a few models for freelancing jobs. |
I learned Zbrush like 4 years ago, but wasn't my main tool. In 2012 I start working in advertising as a compositor and then in 2013 as a 3D generalist, I ended up doing a lot of concept art, compositing, 3d model, textures, rendering except animation. But after July in 2013 I dig into brush participating in online challenges, and I really get a lot of exposure in the social media. Other 3d package that often use is Maya, in the latest version they improved a lot the modeling tools.
Zbrush is the most friendly and artistic way to approach to traditional sculpture, and what is really amazing is you only worry about making the art more than start dealing with technical aspects of the software.
In the creative process depend on the model I always encountered different difficulties, so for that reason I always try to gather a lot of reference or see other artist works to see how to create a solution for certain problems. Most of the people always try to make the software have the solution but at the end is your artistic level that finds the solution. In my career, I learn a lot of software like 3D coat, Mudbox, after effects, premiere, Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, Ndo2, marvelous designer among the others.
Every day to improve my work I try to always have a different approach to my model, like different techniques, brushes etc, that always bring me new results and that I adding to my workflow.
I think I spend the most of the day thinking in modeling, games, characters, and gathering reference or looking other artist's work.
Because if you love what you do, you never get bored to think about it.
I have the pleasure to teach Zbrush at two universities, and some anatomical drawing, that is essential to improve your Zbrush works.
I think my favorite work is the Tyrh Warrior, because was my own design and I encountered many problems to solve like fur, displacement so I learn a lot of in that project. |
